Yes, you can tune a Next Gen Ford Ranger, and we’re proud to be the first ones to do it in Australia.
Rangers offer plenty of respectable stock performance, but there’s a wide range of mods that can make it stand out.
So can you tune a next gen ford ranger? Yes, and here’s how we did.
The Benefits of Next-Gen Ford Ranger Mods
Exhaust Upgrade
Exhaust upgrades have always been one of my go-to mods at Elite Tune.
I know people think “better sound” is the only reason to upgrade an exhaust, but other benefits include:
- Enhanced Efficiency: Upgrading the exhaust creates efficient airflow and can reduce unwanted sputtering. Improved air flow can also help reduce fuel consumption.
- More Power: Better air flow helps boost power and overall performance.
- Customisation: Aftermarket exhaust systems can be tailored to your driving preferences and goals.
- Better Air Flow: The larger aftermarket pipes allow for more direct airflow. This lets the Ranger’s engine “breathe” and offers a more effective path for gases to escape.
- Durability: Premium exhaust systems are sturdier, reducing the risk of repairs.

Armax Safari Snorkel Installation
Snorkel installation is an effective mod that changes how your Ranger draws in air.
Positioned above the roofline, snorkel placement naturally draws in cleaner, cooler air.
Here are 5 benefits of snorkel installation:
1. Engine Protection
Snorkels reduce the amount of particles, spray, dust, and dirt that get drawn into the intake. Cleaner intake air helps protect the engine against filter-clogging particles, abrasive dust, and dirt.
This is ideal if you spend time off-roading on dirt tracks, beaches, or gravel roads like I do.
This cleaner airflow is crucial for efficient combustion and smoother torque delivery. Keeping water and dust out of the cylinders also protects the rings, turbos, and pistons, maximising engine lifespan.
It also reduces the risk of oil contamination and scoring issues. This means better efficiency and maximised protection to help protect your engine in the long run.
2. Naturally Draws in Cooler Air
A snorkel’s elevated placement allows it to naturally draw in cooler, cleaner air. Hot air inside the engine bay when towing can reduce efficiency and cause unnecessary wear and tear on components.
A snorkel pulls in denser, cooler air from higher up. This improves throttle response, fuel efficiency, and combustion efficiency.
3. Watertight for Safer Water Crossings and Beach Driving
Ever had a buddy try crossing a shallow creek without a snorkel, thinking it would be fine? But then he ends up with engine failure from water pushed into the factory intake? It happens more than you’d think.
Without a snorkel, even a shallow creek can allow water to get into the intake. Or, dust and particles from dirt roads can cause wear on the pistons and other components. Then you’re looking at possible hydrolock, worn-out parts, or catastrophic failure.
If you are a creek-crossing or beach driving enthusiast like me, it’s time for a snorkel for your Ranger.
4. Reliable Towing and Touring Performance
One of the lesser-known benefits of snorkel installation is improved stability and smoother torque. If you tow heavy trailers, boats, or caravans, this makes a snorkel worth considering.
Snorkel installation enables steady airflow and reduces strain on the intake, even in challenging conditions.
5. Extended Filter Life
Because a snorkel pulls in cleaner air, it reduces how hard your filter has to work. This can help filters last longer, saving money in the long run.

35 Inch Tyres
Upgrading a next-gen Ford Ranger’s tyres is ideal if you spend a lot of time off-roading or beach driving. I also like the customised, aggressive look it lends to the Ranger.
The benefits of a Next-Gen Ranger tyre upgrade include:
- Better Handling: Beefier tyres enhance capability and handling over rough terrain. This is ideal if you love off-roading and navigating rough terrain.
- Increased Ground Clearance: Higher ground clearance allows for easier navigation over ruts, fallen trees, rocks, and other obstacles. This reduces the risk of damage to the ranger’s undercarriage.
- Enhanced Stability: Bigger tyres offer better stability and traction, especially on rocky trails or muddy back roads.
- Improved Float: A tyre upgrade provides better float on softer surfaces, such as sand.
- Improved Aesthetics: 35-inch tyres create a bold, aggressive look that sets it apart from stock Rangers.

Next-Gen Ranger ECU Remapping
Advanced software has allowed us to unlock the Ranger’s ECU. As you can tell from our Instagram post on ECU remapping, we’re stoked.
Unlocking the Ranger’s ECU enables us to boost:
- Torque
- Horesepower
- PSI
- Towing performance
ECU remapping also creates a smoother, more responsive driving experience.
My favourite aspect of ECU remapping is the customisation. Whatever your driving goals, we can tailor your Ranger’s performance to your needs.

WA’s First Next Gen Ford Rangers Mods
Our Ford Tuning experts recently did a custom tune for a Next-Gen V6 Diesel Ranger and had way too much fun.
Our team added an Armax Safari Snorkel, beefy 35-inch tyres, and a turbo-back 4” stainless exhaust.
This build sounds as awesome as you would expect and puts out some serious power. And we’re just getting started.
