Toyota Hiace on the dyno run

Our Toyota HiAce Tuning Services

Our HiAce tunes start from $1,600 and are designed for real-world working vans, not generic flash files. Every calibration is developed in house on our Mainline AWD3600 dyno, with live load testing that matches how a HiAce actually drives when full of tools, cargo or passengers.

Whether you run a 1GD 2.8 litre, 1KD 3.0 litre or 2KD 2.5 litre, we tune each engine and driveline combination individually for stronger low-rpm torque, smoother daily drivability and safer performance under heavy load.

Nothing is off the shelf. Every HiAce tune is built, tested and validated around your van’s weight, accessories, racks, GVM load, tyres and driving conditions to deliver reliable gains that hold up in demanding WA conditions.

Performance Gains You Can Expect

Our HiAce tunes deliver immediate gains you will notice from the first drive. We focus on usable torque, better drivability and safe, reliable power that works when your van is full of tools, parcels, passengers or equipment.

Typical Results Include

  • Up to 30 to 35 percent more torque for easier take-offs, smoother hill climbs and stronger towing
  • Around 20 to 25 percent more power with cleaner, more predictable acceleration
  • Sharper throttle response with reduced lag, ideal for stop start courier or metro driving
  • Cooler and more efficient operation thanks to optimised boost control, fuelling and airflow
  • More consistent performance under load, especially when running close to GVM or towing
  • Reduced DPF regens and smoother part throttle behaviour on 1GD models

All gains are confirmed on our Mainline AWD dyno and tailored to your specific engine, load, tyres, accessories and driving style.

HiAce Models We Work With

The HiAce is one of the hardest-working commercial vehicles in Australia. It spends its life carrying weight, hauling gear and operating across metro and regional routes. Factory mapping keeps these vans safe but leaves a lot of usable torque and drivability locked away. A proper tune transforms the HiAce into a smoother, stronger and more efficient workhorse without compromising reliability.

  • 1GD FTV 2.8 litre
  • LWB, SLWB, Crew Van and Commuter

H200 (2005–2019)

  • 1KD FTV 3.0 litre
  • 2KD FTV 2.5 litre

Our HiAce Tuning Process

  1. Initial Inspection and Diagnostics: We start with a full health check, scanning for fault codes, injector balance issues, boost leaks and intake carbon. HiAces often run close to GVM, so we verify that the engine, injectors and DPF system are ready for tuning.
  2. Baseline Dyno Run: Your van is tested on our Mainline AWD dyno to record factory torque, power, AFRs, boost levels and EGTs. This gives us an exact baseline and helps us identify weak spots before tuning.
  3. Custom ECU Calibration: We build a custom map for your 1GD, 1KD or 2KD engine, adjusting fuelling, boost control, torque limits and throttle mapping. Nothing is generic. All calibrations are written by us and tailored to real HiAce load conditions.
  4. Live Load Testing on the Dyno: Multiple load runs allow us to refine the tune while monitoring EGTs, fuelling and boost behaviour under realistic working loads. We keep everything safe for high-kilometre commercial vans.
  5. Final Verification and Road Testing: After dyno refinement, we complete road testing to check throttle feel, load behaviour, turbo response and gear transitions. Only once drivability is perfect do we sign the vehicle off.

Other HiAce Services

Along with tuning, we provide essential engine performance services to keep your HiAce strong and dependable. Regular maintenance protects torque, response and overall reliability, particularly for high-kilometre trade, courier and fleet vans.

Every service is completed in-house at our Welshpool workshop using professional diagnostic equipment and quality parts chosen for HiAce diesel engines.

Carbon Cleaning

Carbon build-up in the intake, EGR, and combustion system can restrict airflow and reduce performance. Our carbon cleaning service restores power, smoothness, and fuel efficiency by removing deposits and improving combustion.

DPF Replacement

A blocked diesel particulate filter (DPF) can choke engine output and raise exhaust temperatures. We provide professional DPF cleaning and replacement to restore flow, protect the turbo, and keep your vehicle emissions-compliant.

Catch Can Installation

Installing a catch can prevents oil vapour and sludge from entering the intake system, reducing carbon build-up and extending turbo and intercooler life.

Long-Range Fuel Tanks

Upgrading to a long-range tank increases your vehicle’s endurance between refuels, ideal for outback touring and remote worksites. We fit quality Australian-made tanks that integrate seamlessly with factory fuel systems.

I recently had my BT-50 fully modified through EliteTune and couldn’t be happier with the result. During my visit, they handled everything — exhaust, tune, lift kit, plus a full tyre and rim package — all in one go, which made the whole process super convenient. The quality of the work is excellent, and the difference in performance and overall look of the vehicle is unreal. You can tell they take pride in what they do and pay attention to the details. The crew are also very good — easy to deal with, knowledgeable, and happy to answer any questions along the way. They made the whole experience smooth from start to finish.Highly recommend EliteTune to anyone looking to upgrade their vehicle. I’ll definitely be sending people their way.

Got my 80 Series tuned and serviced by Elite Tune and honestly couldn’t be happier. The difference is night and day. throttle response is way sharper, pulls harder through the rev range, and just feels way more alive to drive. It used to feel a bit sluggish, especially towing or going up hills, but now it handles it effortlessly. They really know their stuff too. Rickey was so polite and was to understand as he took the time to explain everything properly and made sure the tune suited how I actually use the car not just some generic setup which other shops do. You can tell they care about doing it right, not just rushing jobs through.Surprisingly it came with a bonus too as my fuel economy even improved a bit and the motor just runs smoother overall. Easily one of the best mods I’ve done to the 80.If you’re thinking about getting a tune, don’t even hesitate. Elite Tune absolutely delivered if i could give other 5 stars i would!

FAQs

What improvements will I actually feel after a HiAce tune?

You will notice stronger take-off torque, smoother acceleration, less turbo lag and better pulling power when the van is loaded. Most owners also report easier hill climbing, safer overtaking and improved fuel economy.

How long does a HiAce tune take?

Usually three to four hours. If your van needs diagnostics, DPF checks or injector balance tests, it may take slightly longer.

Is HiAce tuning safe for high-kilometre vans?

Yes. We tune many HiAces with 200,000 to 500,000 km. The key is doing a full health check first and keeping the tune conservative on boost, EGTs and rail pressure. Our maps are written specifically for working vans that run close to GVM every day.

Do ECU remaps void my Toyota warranty?

If your vehicle is still under manufacturer warranty, an ECU remap may affect warranty coverage on the engine and driveline. However, for most 70 Series models (which are typically out of warranty), this isn’t a concern. All Elite Tune remaps are safe, data-driven, and fully dyno-tested.

Will a tune help with stop-start courier driving?

Absolutely. A proper tune cleans up the flat spots in the 1GD engine, reduces lag and gives better throttle response at low speeds. It makes the van far easier to drive in traffic.

Can tuning reduce DPF issues on my HiAce?

Yes. A clean, efficient tune reduces unnecessary regens, lowers soot load and helps the DPF stay healthier for longer. It does not delete or disable the DPF. Everything remains road legal.

Is tuning safe for towing and heavy loads?

Yes. Our dyno ECU remaps are specifically designed for towing, focusing on low- and mid-range torque rather than peak horsepower. We also manage EGTs (exhaust gas temperatures) to ensure safe long-term performance.

How much power and torque can a HiAce gain?

Most HiAces see around 20 to 25 percent more power and up to 35 percent more torque, depending on the engine and condition. The biggest improvement is how much smoother and more predictable the van feels.

Is ECU remapping better than a tuning chip for HiAces?

Yes. Chips increase rail pressure with very little control, which can stress injectors. A custom ECU remap is safer and allows us to manage boost, torque limits, fuelling and EGTs properly.

Can you tune a HiAce with the stock ECU?

Yes. All modern HiAces are tuned directly through the factory ECU. No aftermarket units are required.

Does HiAce tuning affect fuel economy?

Most owners see a small improvement. A more efficient torque curve means the engine works less when the van is loaded or climbing hills.

Can you tune my HiAce if it has aftermarket racks, shelving or a GVM upgrade?

Yes. We tune many heavily fitted HiAces. The extra weight is exactly why a load-focused tune works so well.

What qualifications do our mechanics have?

Our team at Elite Tune, backed by over two decades of expertise in automotive engineering and performance tuning, specialises in 4WDs. This extensive experience ensures we deliver top-tier vehicle tuning and maintenance services.

Do we have a warranty?

Your rights as a consumer are protected by automatic guarantees when you use our services, which cover due care and skill, fitness for purpose, and timely completion. These are in addition to any warranties we offer, ensuring you can still seek remedies like repair, replacement, refund, or cancellation if standards are not met, even after the warranty period. The nature of the fault—major or minor—determines your entitlements, with major issues allowing for a choice between a refund or replacement, while minor problems will be fixed at no extra cost. Manufacturer’s and extended warranties do not limit these rights under the Australian Consumer Law (ACL), guaranteeing protection and remedies regardless of warranty duration.
